How can we help?

A quick guide to scanning, correcting and sharing with PocketScan. The same help is in the app, under Settings › Help.

Guide

Capture or import

Place the page flat in even light and keep all four corners in view, then tap the shutter. When the page edges are found, the page is cropped for you; the original photo is kept. Tap the preview to focus, or pinch to zoom. If camera access is off, use Import photos, or turn it on in your phone’s Settings. You can import still JPEG, PNG or WebP images; photos from your library arrive as JPEG. Animated images and existing PDFs aren’t supported.

Crop and appearance

Tap a page to edit it. Drag a corner to adjust the crop, or tap a corner and use the arrows for small moves. Auto crop finds the edges again, and Reset shows the whole photo. Pinch, or use + and −, to zoom. In Appearance, choose a look and the contrast, and touch and hold the compare button to see the original; “Apply look to all pages” gives every page the same look. Apply keeps your changes, and Cancel leaves the page as it was.

Review and save

Touch and hold a page to reorder it, or use its menu to rotate it, move it earlier or later, or remove it. Undo restores the most recently removed page and its edits, even after you reopen the draft, until you remove another page or save or discard the draft. Saving needs at least one page and a name. To change a saved document, choose Edit pages: you work on a copy, and Save updates the document. If you leave without changing anything, no copy is kept. Save as new document keeps your edits as a separate document.

Continue unfinished work

Captured and imported pages and applied edits are kept as you work. Unfinished scans and unsaved changes appear at the top of Documents: tap one to pick up where you left off, or swipe left to discard it (PocketScan asks first). Changes still open in the editor are kept once you tap Apply. If your phone closes the app, reopen it to resume pending work.

Create, share and save files

A PDF contains every saved page in order; a JPEG exports the page you choose. Start with Standard and try High if small print needs more detail. Creating a file continues while you return to Documents, where Recent exports shows its progress. File ready shows the actual size. Share sends the file to another app, while Save to files puts a separate copy where you choose.

If something fails

An unreadable image doesn’t remove the pages that imported successfully. If saving or creating a file fails, keep the draft, check your phone’s free storage and try again. Retry uses the same pages and edits. If saving a copy fails partway, a partial file may remain at the destination, so check it before trying again. A missing file can be created again from File ready.

Keep a copy elsewhere

Documents are stored only in PocketScan on your phone, and there is no automatic backup. Deleting the app or clearing its data removes your scans. Save copies of important documents somewhere else, and open them to check that they’re readable and in the right order. Choosing Share doesn’t confirm that another app delivered the file. To delete a document, swipe left on it in Documents or use its menu.

FAQ

Common questions

Is PocketScan really free?

Yes. PocketScan is free to use, with no account to create and no watermark on your files.

Does PocketScan upload my documents?

No. PocketScan has no account, no servers and no internet access. Scans are processed and stored only in the app on your phone. A file leaves your device only when you share it or save a copy somewhere yourself.

What happens to my documents if I delete the app?

They are removed with it. PocketScan keeps your documents out of device and cloud backups, so there is no copy elsewhere unless you export one. Save copies of important documents to Files, your computer or another place you trust, and open them once to check them.

Can I scan photos I already have?

Yes. Import still JPEG, PNG or WebP images from your photo library. iPhone HEIC photos come in as JPEG automatically. Animated images and existing PDFs aren’t supported.

Which file formats can I export?

A multipage PDF with every page in order, or a JPEG of a single page. Choose Standard (2000 px, smaller files for email and forms) or High (3200 px, for fine print). PocketScan estimates the size before you export and shows the real size afterwards.

Can it recognize the text on a page?

Not yet. Copying printed text from your scans is on our roadmap.

Which phones does it work on?

iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and Android phones with Android 8.0 or later.

When can I get it?

Soon. PocketScan is in final testing and will launch on the App Store and Google Play.
